Licensed Hotels in Bocas del Toro: The Full ATP Register (2026)

If you want to stay in Bocas Town, the four stays we operate are Blue Marlin, Bocasso, Casa Pelicano and Boho Pelicano. Blue Marlin is the over-water option; Bocasso suits groups and families; Casa Pelicano has kitchens for longer stays; Boho Pelicano is the budget-boutique choice.

2.How many licensed hotels are there in Bocas del Toro?

There are 157 registered tourism accommodations in Bocas del Toro in the 2 July 2026 report. The count matches the provincial total printed on the report itself; the PDF lists 157 rows across seven pages.

The register groups stays by legal modality, not by quality. Hostal Familiar is the largest category with 62 entries, followed by hotels (33) and residenciales (23). Cabañas rose from 2 to 9 between the two reports; hotels rose from 29 to 33. The one camping site in 2024, Palmar Beach Lodge, is listed as an Albergue in 2026.

These are registrations, not openings. The same business can change name or modality between reports, so the net increase of 17 is not a count of new hotels.

4.Are the best-known Bocas del Toro hotels licensed?

Yes. The six hotels that most often appear in English-language “best hotels in Bocas del Toro” lists — Nayara Bocas del Toro, La Coralina Island House, Red Frog Beach Island Resort, Sol Bungalows, The Hummingbird and Tropical Suites — appear in the 2 July 2026 register.

The names differ slightly from the marketing names: the register lists APARTHOTEL TROPICAL SUITES, HOTEL THE HUMMINGBIRD and HOTEL LA CORALINA ISLAND HOUSE. That matters when you search the PDF: use the register name, not the brand name. Red Frog appears three times under different names and modalities — RED FROG BEACH (Albergue), RED FROG BUNGALOWS (Bungalow) and RED FROG BEACH RESORT (Hotel).

A register entry confirms registration. It does not confirm quality, price, room count or that the property is currently taking guests.

5.What the register does not tell you

The register records a name, a legal modality, an email and a phone number. It does not include a street address, room count, nightly rate, guest rating, amenities or opening status.

It is also a snapshot. “Vigente” means current on the report date, not today. A property can be added or removed after 2 July 2026. For a live status check, contact ATP directly; the report itself is the authority.

Modality is not a quality tier. A Hostal Familiar can be a better stay than a Hotel; the label describes the licence category, not the experience.

The register also lists the contact details each operator gave ATP. Many are personal email addresses, so we leave them out of this page; the official PDF has them.

6.Registered stays vs booking-site listings

The register and a booking site answer different questions. The ATP list says what is licensed. A booking site says what is for sale on your dates.

They do not contain the same properties. The 2 July 2026 register has 157 entries. Our Agoda price scan of 119 stays — 181 nights, run on 18 October 2026 — covers fewer properties, and some of those are not in the register. Neither list is a subset of the other.

That gap is why “is it licensed?” is a separate check. A property can be sellable without appearing in the register under the name you see on the booking page.

7.How we built this page

We downloaded the ATP report published 2 July 2026 (57 pages, 211 KB) and extracted every row in the Bocas del Toro section. The result is 157 records, matching the report's stated provincial total. We also extracted the 21 May 2024 report (140 records) for the comparison table.

Names and modalities are reproduced as published, including original spelling, capitalisation and typos; emails and phone numbers are left out. We did not merge duplicate brands or add properties.

The PDFs are linked below. If a row looks wrong, check the source first: the error is usually in the report, and we will not silently edit government data.
